Wisconsin State Capitol
The Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison is the grand building where the state's leaders make laws. It sits on a narrow strip of land between two shimmering lakes.
It is famous for its towering white dome, the only granite state capitol dome in the country, topped by a golden statue. Visitors climb to an observation deck for sweeping views of the city and lakes.
The Grand Dome
The white dome rises high above the city and is topped by a shiny golden statue called Wisconsin. Inside, the ceiling is painted with bright colors and covered in beautiful stone.
Between Two Lakes
The capitol sits on an isthmus, a slim piece of land between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. From the top you can look out over sparkling water on both sides.
Free Tours
Families can take free guided tours to learn how laws are made and see the fancy chambers. A lively farmers market fills the surrounding square on summer Saturdays.
