Washington Monument
The Washington Monument is a tall, pointed stone tower built to honor George Washington, the first president. At over 555 feet, it is one of the tallest stone structures in the world.
It is famous for towering over the entire city and can be seen from far away. A fast elevator carries visitors to the top for a wide view of Washington, D.C.

Look closely and you can see the marble changes color partway up, because building it paused for many years.
