The Tidal Basin is a calm, round pool of water ringed by hundreds of cherry blossom trees and gentle walking paths. Several white marble memorials stand along its peaceful shore.
Every spring it becomes famous when the cherry trees burst into clouds of pink and white flowers. Families come to picnic, ride paddle boats, and enjoy the springtime beauty.
In late March and early April the trees bloom in soft pink and white, first given as a gift from Japan.
You can rent a paddle boat, walk the shady loop, and visit the Jefferson and Martin Luther King Jr. memorials.
The still water reflects the white memorials and the blooming trees like a giant mirror.
