North Cascades National Park
North Cascades National Park is a rugged land of jagged peaks, deep forests, and bright turquoise lakes. It is one of the wildest and least crowded parks in the country.
People call it the American Alps because of its more than 300 sparkling glaciers. Diablo Lake, with its unreal blue-green water, is the most photographed and beloved spot in the park.
Turquoise Lakes
Diablo Lake gets its glowing blue-green color from tiny bits of rock ground up by glaciers, called rock flour. Overlooks along the highway make it easy to see.
So Many Glaciers
With over 300 glaciers, this park has more than any other in the lower United States. These rivers of ice slowly carved the sharp peaks you see today.
Wild and Quiet
Because it is so rugged, few people visit, so wildlife thrives here. Bears, wolves, and eagles roam the valleys, and the night sky fills with stars.
