Shenandoah National Park
Shenandoah National Park is a huge stretch of forested mountains and valleys in northern Virginia. A famous winding road called Skyline Drive runs along the ridge tops with beautiful views in every direction.
People love Shenandoah for its waterfalls, wildflowers, and fiery orange-and-red trees in the fall. It is one of the best places on the East Coast to hike, spot deer and black bears, and watch the sun set over the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Wildlife
The park is home to white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and about 300 black bears. Lucky visitors might see a bear cub climbing a tree or a deer grazing quietly near the trail.
Hiking and waterfalls
More than 500 miles of trails wind through the park, including part of the famous Appalachian Trail. Many paths lead to sparkling waterfalls where you can cool your feet on a hot day.
Fall colors
Every October the whole forest turns gold, orange, and red, and crowds drive Skyline Drive to see it. The cool mountain air and colorful leaves make autumn the most magical time to visit.
