Palo Duro Canyon

Palo Duro Canyon is a huge, colorful canyon in the flat Texas Panhandle. It is the second largest canyon in the whole United States.

People love its bright red and orange rock walls that glow at sunset. Hiking, horseback riding, and outdoor shows make it a favorite for families.

Colorful Rocks

The canyon walls show layers of red, orange, yellow, and white rock. A famous tall rock spire called the Lighthouse stands near the trails.

Activities

You can hike, bike, or ride horses along winding paths down into the canyon. Campgrounds let families sleep under the wide sky.

Wildlife

Wild turkeys, roadrunners, and deer live among the rocks and bushes. Colorful lizards sun themselves on warm stones.
