Great Smoky Mountains National Park
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a huge forest park that sits along the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. It is filled with tall green mountains, misty valleys, waterfalls, and winding hiking trails.
It is the most visited national park in the whole United States, loved for its foggy blue peaks and thousands of kinds of plants and animals. Families come to see black bears, salamanders, and colorful autumn leaves.
Wildlife
The park is home to about 1,500 black bears, plus deer, wild turkeys, and more kinds of salamanders than almost anywhere on Earth.
The famous mist
Plants release a soft blue haze that hangs over the mountains, which is how the Smokies got their smoky name.
Hiking and waterfalls
More than 800 miles of trails lead families to waterfalls, old log cabins, and mountaintop views.
