Custer State Park
Custer State Park is a huge park in the Black Hills filled with pine forests, clear lakes, and rolling grasslands. It is famous for its winding scenic roads that curl through tunnels and around towering rocks.
It is loved because a huge herd of about 1,500 wild bison roams freely across the park. Families drive the Wildlife Loop Road hoping to see bison, burros, and other animals up close.
The Begging Burros
A group of friendly donkeys called the Begging Burros walks right up to cars hoping for a snack. They are gentle and have become one of the most fun surprises in the park.
Scenic Drives
The Needles Highway takes you through skinny rock tunnels and past sharp granite spires that look like giant needles. The Iron Mountain Road even has curls that spiral like a corkscrew.
Lakes and Hikes
The park has calm lakes like Sylvan Lake where families swim, paddle, and picnic in summer. Trails wind up to rocky peaks with wonderful views of the Black Hills.
