Crazy Horse Memorial
Crazy Horse Memorial is an enormous mountain carving that honors the Native American leader Crazy Horse riding his horse. When it is finished it will be the largest sculpture in the world, much bigger than Mount Rushmore.
It is famous because sculptors have been carving it for over 70 years and it is still being made. The finished face alone is so big that all four Mount Rushmore heads could fit inside it.
A Work in Progress
The carving was started in 1948 and workers are still shaping the rock today, so visitors get to watch a giant sculpture being made. The whole project is paid for by donations and ticket sales, not the government.
Native American Culture
The memorial has a museum full of Native American art, clothing, and stories that celebrate the people of the Great Plains. It is meant to honor the history and heritage of Native tribes.
The Blast Nights
A few times a year the memorial holds a special night show with lasers and a rock blast that lights up the mountain. Crowds gather to watch the colorful lights dance across the giant carving.
