The Corn Palace
The Corn Palace in Mitchell is a large building decorated entirely with real corn, grain, and grasses. Every year artists create brand new pictures on the outside walls using thousands of ears of colored corn.
It is famous as the world's only Corn Palace, with murals made from corn that are changed every single year. People come from far away to see the giant corn artwork and the fun onion-shaped domes on top.
Art Made of Corn
Artists use corn in many natural colors like yellow, red, blue, and brown to make giant pictures on the walls. It takes thousands of ears of corn to finish the murals each year.
A New Look Yearly
Because real corn does not last forever, the whole design is torn down and made new every year with a fresh theme. This means the palace never looks exactly the same twice.
Fun Inside
Inside, the Corn Palace is used for basketball games, concerts, and community events all year. Visitors can shop for souvenirs and learn how the corn art is made.
