Fort Sumter National Monument
Fort Sumter is a historic island fort in Charleston Harbor that visitors reach by a fun ferry boat ride. Its thick brick walls and old cannons tell the story of the beginning of the Civil War.
It is famous as the place where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired in 1861. Park rangers share exciting stories, and the boat ride offers beautiful views of the harbor and dolphins.
