The Cliff Walk is a 3.5-mile public path in Newport that runs between grand mansions and the crashing sea. It is both a nature trail and a National Recreation Trail.
People love it because you get free ocean views, sea breezes, and a peek at the famous mansions all at once. It is one of the best walks in New England for families and photographers.
On one side you see huge mansions and gardens, and on the other side the deep blue Atlantic Ocean. Wildflowers and rocky cliffs line the whole trail.
The first part is a smooth paved path that is easy for little kids. Farther along it gets rocky and more like a fun adventure hike.
Seagulls and cormorants soar over the water, and you may spot crabs in the tide pools. In spring the cliffs bloom with wild roses.
