Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area
The Oregon Dunes are giant hills of sand along the coast, some as tall as a 50-story building. They stretch for about 40 miles, making the largest coastal sand dunes in all of North America.
They are famous for wild sand adventures, where visitors ride buggies, slide down slopes, and hike over the endless waves of sand. The dunes even helped inspire a famous science-fiction story.
Sandy Adventures
Families can ride dune buggies, sandboard down the slopes, or simply run and roll on the soft sand. It feels like a giant playground made entirely of sand.
Where Sand Meets Trees
Between the sand and the ocean there are forests, small lakes, and grassy areas full of birds and deer. This mix of habitats makes it a special place for wildlife.
Ever-Changing Shapes
The wind pushes the sand around, so the dunes slowly change shape and move over time. No two visits ever look exactly the same.
