Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock
Cannon Beach is a wide, sandy beach on the Oregon coast famous for a giant 235-foot rock rising from the sea called Haystack Rock. At low tide you can walk close and peek into little pools full of sea creatures.
This beach is loved for its beauty and has appeared in movies, making it one of the most recognized coastal spots in America. Families come to build sandcastles, fly kites, and watch the sunset behind the big rock.
Tide Pool Animals
When the ocean pulls back, the rocks below Haystack Rock fill with colorful starfish, green anemones, and tiny crabs. It is a protected home for wildlife, so we look but do not touch.
Puffins and Birds
Every spring, cute orange-beaked puffins nest on the sides of the big rock, along with many other seabirds. Bring binoculars to watch them fly and dive.
Beach Fun
The wide flat sand is perfect for long walks, flying kites, and splashing in the waves. Bring a jacket because the coast is often cool and breezy, even in summer.
