North Carolina Zoo
The North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro is one of the largest natural-habitat zoos in the world. Instead of small cages, animals roam in wide open spaces that look like their real homes.
It is loved for its huge Africa and North America regions where you can see elephants, giraffes, lions, and polar bears. Families spend the whole day walking shady paths and meeting animals from around the world.
Big open habitats
The zoo covers more than 2,000 acres, so animals have lots of room to walk and play. Wide viewing areas let you watch elephants and zebras roam like they do in the wild.
Two continents
One side shows African animals like lions, gorillas, and rhinos, while the other shows North American ones like bison, bears, and cougars. A tram helps tired feet travel between them.
Butterflies and birds
A warm indoor garden lets colorful butterflies flutter right around you. In the aviary, bright tropical birds fly overhead and sometimes land on the railings.
