Chimney Rock State Park
Chimney Rock State Park is a mountain park built around a giant stone tower that rises straight out of the cliffs. From its top you can see far across lakes, forests, and rolling hills.
The famous rock chimney gives a 75-mile view and has appeared in movies. Families love riding the elevator inside the mountain, climbing to a waterfall, and spotting the American flag waving on top.
The big view
From the top of the rock you can see Lake Lure and 75 miles of mountains on a clear day. An elevator built inside the cliff carries visitors 26 stories up.
Waterfall trail
A trail leads to Hickory Nut Falls, one of the tallest waterfalls in the eastern United States. The path winds through cool forest with wooden bridges and stairs.
Rock and wildlife
The cliffs are a favorite home for peregrine falcons, the fastest birds in the world. Green forests around the rock are full of chipmunks, deer, and colorful wildflowers.
