Biltmore Estate
The Biltmore Estate in Asheville is the largest privately owned home in the United States. It is a grand castle-like mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens and rolling green land.
Built by the Vanderbilt family in 1895, it has 250 rooms, secret passages, and a giant indoor swimming pool. Visitors love touring the fancy halls, smelling the flower gardens, and seeing the farm animals on the grounds.
History
George Vanderbilt opened the house on Christmas Eve of 1895 as a country home for his family. It took hundreds of workers about six years to build.
Gardens
The estate has miles of gardens designed by a famous landscape artist, including a glass greenhouse full of tropical plants. In spring, thousands of tulips and roses bloom in bright colors.
Farm and animals
The grounds include a working farm with a barnyard where kids can meet goats, chickens, and horses. There is also a river where families can float on rafts.
