The Battleship North Carolina is a giant World War II warship docked in Wilmington on the Cape Fear River. Visitors can climb aboard and explore the real ship from top to bottom.
It is a floating museum where you can walk through the sailors' bunk rooms, kitchens, and giant gun turrets. Families love imagining life at sea and standing next to cannons taller than a person.
A floating city
The ship once carried about 2,300 sailors who lived, ate, and slept aboard like a small town at sea. You can peek into the bakery, the barber shop, and the sick bay.
Giant guns
The battleship has nine huge main guns that could fire shells the weight of a small car for miles. Standing under the turrets shows just how enormous the ship really is.
River life
The ship floats on the Cape Fear River, where alligators and herons sometimes swim by in the marsh. A living memorial garden nearby honors the sailors who served.
