Carlsbad Caverns National Park
Carlsbad Caverns is a park in southern New Mexico with more than 100 underground caves. The biggest room is so huge you could fit many football fields inside it.
People love it for the sparkling rock shapes that hang from the ceiling and grow up from the floor. Every summer evening, hundreds of thousands of bats fly out of the cave in a swirling black cloud.
Underground Caves
You ride an elevator or walk down a winding path deep into the earth. Cool air and soft lights make the giant rooms feel like a magic castle.
Bat Flight
At sunset in warm months, huge groups of bats swirl out of the cave to hunt insects. Rangers tell fun stories while everyone watches from special seats.
Rock Shapes
Water dripping for thousands of years built pointy stone icicles and tall stone towers. Some look like curtains, popcorn, or even frozen waterfalls.
