Scotts Bluff National Monument

Scotts Bluff is a huge set of cliffs and bluffs that towers over the North Platte River valley. You can drive or hike all the way to the top for amazing views.

For thousands of years this giant landmark helped travelers find their way across the plains. It is loved for its scenic summit road, its hiking trails, and its wide views of the surrounding prairie.

Activities

Families can hike the Saddle Rock Trail or ride to the top by car, then walk to overlooks that peek out over the valley.

Watch for prairie dogs, deer, and colorful birds that live among the rocks and grasses of the monument.

History

Wagon ruts from the Oregon Trail can still be seen near the bluff, showing where pioneers once rolled through.
