Gateway Arch
The Gateway Arch is a giant shiny stainless-steel arch that curves 630 feet into the sky above St. Louis. Tiny tram cars carry visitors up inside the arch to a viewing room at the very top.
It is the tallest man-made monument in the United States and a symbol of the pioneers who traveled west long ago. People love riding to the top to see the whole city and the Mississippi River far below.

History
The Arch was finished in 1965 to honor Thomas Jefferson and the brave explorers who opened the American West.

The Ride Up
Small egg-shaped tram cars climb slowly inside the curved legs, and the trip to the top takes about four minutes.

The View
From the windows at the top you can see up to 30 miles on a clear day, including parks, bridges, and the wide river.
