Vicksburg National Military Park

Vicksburg National Military Park is a huge outdoor park that protects the site of a famous Civil War battle. You can drive or walk along a path that winds past cannons, monuments, and grassy hills where soldiers once camped.

It is loved because it has more than 1,300 monuments and a real restored gunboat called the USS Cairo that you can see up close. Families come from all over the country to learn history while walking through the peaceful, beautiful grounds.

History

This is where a long Civil War siege happened in 1863, and the town remembers it every day. Markers all around the park tell the story of the brave people on both sides.

The USS Cairo

A real ironclad gunboat that sank in the river was raised and put on display here. Kids love seeing the huge old ship and the museum full of things found inside it.
