Natchez Trace Parkway
The Natchez Trace Parkway is a long, scenic road that follows an ancient trail used by Native Americans and early travelers. It winds gently through forests, fields, and old historic sites with no traffic lights or billboards.
It is loved because it is one of the prettiest drives in America, full of green tunnels of trees and wildflowers. Families stop along the way to hike short trails, see waterfalls, and walk on parts of the old sunken trail.
Scenery
The road passes through beautiful woods that turn bright green in spring and golden in fall. There are pretty overlooks, ponds, and open meadows all along the way.
The Sunken Trace
In some places, the old trail is worn down deep into the ground from hundreds of years of footsteps. Walking through these shady, deep paths feels like stepping back in time.
Wildlife
Deer, wild turkeys, and many songbirds live in the forests along the parkway. Drive slowly and you may spot animals crossing the quiet road.
