Voyageurs National Park
Voyageurs National Park is a watery wilderness of lakes, islands, and forests near the Canadian border. The best way to explore it is by boat or canoe, gliding across the calm water.
It is famous for its dark night skies where you can see thousands of stars and sometimes the glowing Northern Lights. The park is named after the French-Canadian fur traders who once paddled these waters in big canoes.
Northern Lights
On clear cold nights the sky can glow with green and pink waves of light called the aurora, which dance above the lakes.
Wildlife
The forests are home to wolves, moose, black bears, beavers, and loons, the black-and-white water bird that is Minnesota's state bird.
Life on the Water
Most of the park is only reachable by boat, so families camp on islands, fish, and paddle canoes just like the old fur traders did.
