Itasca State Park
Itasca State Park is Minnesota's oldest state park and the place where the mighty Mississippi River begins. At the headwaters you can walk across the great river on stepping stones because it is only a small stream here.
It is famous because families come to say they stepped across the start of one of the longest rivers in the world. The park also has ancient pine trees, clear lakes, and trails perfect for hiking and biking.

Some of the red and white pine trees in the park are over 200 years old and taller than a ten-story building.
Lakes and Trails
Visitors can swim, rent a boat, ride bikes on a paved trail, and watch for deer, eagles, and loons along the way.
