Baxter State Park
Baxter State Park is a wild, protected forest in northern Maine, filled with mountains, ponds, and quiet trails. At its center stands Mount Katahdin, the tallest mountain in the whole state.
It is famous as the northern end of the Appalachian Trail, a footpath that stretches all the way to Georgia. People love it for its untouched wilderness, moose in the ponds, and a feeling of being far away from busy cities.

This is one of the best places in Maine to see a moose wading in a pond, along with black bears, deer, and loons that call across the water.
