Maquoketa Caves State Park
Maquoketa Caves State Park is one of Iowa's most fun outdoor parks, filled with caves you can walk and crawl through. A trail connects more than a dozen caves, tall rock cliffs, and a natural stone bridge.
It is famous and loved because exploring the caves feels like a real treasure adventure with flashlights and cool, dark passages. More cave entrances sit here than in any other Iowa state park, making it a favorite for adventurous families.
Cave Exploring
You can walk, duck, and crawl through many different caves, some big and open and some small and twisty. Bring a flashlight, because the deepest caves are dark and mysterious.
Rocks and Forest
Tall limestone cliffs, a giant balanced rock, and a natural stone bridge tower over shady woodland trails. The green forest is cool and pretty, especially in spring and fall.
Hiking and Picnics
A six-mile trail system loops past every cave, so families can hike as much or as little as they like. There are shady spots to spread out a picnic and rest.
