Shedd Aquarium
The Shedd Aquarium sits right on the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago. It is home to thousands of animals, from tiny seahorses to playful dolphins and beluga whales.
It is famous for its giant curved windows where whales and dolphins swim past with the real Chicago skyline behind them. Families love the Caribbean Reef tank and getting nose to nose with sea otters and penguins.
Amazing Animals
You can meet beluga whales, sea otters, penguins, sharks, and a giant Pacific octopus. Many animals were rescued and now have a safe home at the aquarium.
The Big Reef
The Caribbean Reef is a round tank in the center holding 90,000 gallons of water. A diver often swims inside to hand-feed the turtles and colorful fish while kids watch.
Lake Views
The aquarium's tall windows look out over Lake Michigan, so the animals seem to swim right against the sky. Outside you can feel the fresh lake breeze on the museum campus.
