Jekyll Island
Jekyll Island is one of Georgia's Golden Isles, a peaceful barrier island with wide beaches and ancient oak trees. It is famous for Driftwood Beach, where weathered trees lie like sculptures along the shore.
It is loved for its sea turtle center, its bike paths, and its calm, family-friendly beaches. Long ago it was a private club for some of the richest families in America, and their grand old cottages still stand.
Sea Turtle Rescue
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a hospital where sick and injured turtles are cared for until they can go home to the ocean. Kids can meet the patients and learn how to help protect these gentle animals.
Driftwood Beach
At Driftwood Beach the ocean has slowly worn the shore, leaving whole trees bleached silver by the sun and salt. It looks like a magical outdoor art gallery and is a favorite place for photos and climbing.
Biking and Nature
A network of flat, shady bike paths circles the whole island past beaches, marshes, and grand old houses. Along the way you may spot deer, herons, and armadillos snuffling through the leaves.
