Rocky Mountain National Park
Rocky Mountain National Park is a huge protected wilderness in northern Colorado filled with towering peaks, alpine lakes, and green valleys. A scenic road called Trail Ridge climbs so high that you drive right above the treeline into the tundra.
It is loved because families can spot elk, hike to sparkling lakes, and feel like they are on top of the world. The fresh mountain air and postcard views make it one of America's favorite national parks.
Wildlife
Herds of elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and marmots live here, and in autumn you can hear elk bugling across the meadows.
Activities
Visitors hike to Bear Lake and Emerald Lake, drive the high Trail Ridge Road, and picnic beside rushing streams.
Weather
Summers are cool and pleasant while winters bring deep snow, so bring a jacket even in July because the high peaks stay chilly.
