Lake Tahoe
Lake Tahoe is a giant, deep blue lake high in the Sierra Nevada mountains on the border of California and Nevada. Its water is so clear and clean that you can see far down into the sparkling depths.
It is famous as one of the clearest and deepest lakes in the country, ringed by tall pine forests and snowy peaks. People love it for summer swimming and boating and for winter skiing on the nearby mountains.
Four Seasons of Fun
In summer the lake is warm enough for swimming, kayaking, and building sandcastles on the beach. In winter deep snow blankets the mountains, and families come to ski, snowboard, and go sledding.
Crystal Clear Water
Tahoe's water is famously clear, and in some spots you can see more than 60 feet down. Emerald Bay is a favorite place where the shallow water glows a beautiful green over the sandy bottom.
Mountain Wildlife
The forests around the lake are home to black bears, chipmunks, ospreys, and busy woodpeckers. If you sit quietly on a trail, you might hear birds singing and squirrels rustling through the pine needles.
