Crater of Diamonds State Park
Crater of Diamonds State Park is a very special place where visitors can dig for real diamonds and keep whatever they find. It sits on top of an old volcano that brought sparkling gems close to the surface long ago.
It is one of the only places on Earth where the public can search for diamonds in the ground for free once you enter. Kids and grown-ups love the treasure-hunt feeling, and lucky diggers really do find shiny gems.
Finders Keepers
Any diamond, jewel, or pretty rock you find in the search field is yours to take home. The park staff will even help you check if your special stone is a real diamond.
How To Search
You can look on top of the dirt after rain, dig and sift with buckets and screens, or just walk and watch for a sparkle. Bright sunny days after a rain are the best time to spot shiny gems.
The Old Volcano
Millions of years ago a volcano pushed diamonds up from deep inside the Earth to this very spot. That is why this plowed field is one of the few public diamond sites in the world.
