Kenai Fjords National Park
Kenai Fjords National Park sits on the rugged coast near Seward, where mountains meet the sea in deep ocean valleys called fjords. It is crowned by the enormous Harding Icefield, which feeds nearly forty glaciers.
Kenai Fjords is famous for boat tours where you can watch glaciers crack and tumble into the sea with a giant splash. Visitors love spotting whales, sea otters, puffins, and sea lions playing in the icy blue water.
Whales and Sea Life
The waters here are full of humpback whales, orcas, playful sea otters, and sea lions. Tour boats often stop so everyone can watch a whale wave its tail or a puffin zoom by.
Calving Glaciers
When a big chunk of glacier ice breaks off and crashes into the ocean, it is called calving, and it sounds like thunder. Watching a wall of ice fall into the sea is one of the most amazing sights in Alaska.
Harding Icefield
High above the park lies a vast field of ice and snow so big it looks like a frozen white ocean. It is one of the largest icefields in the whole United States and feeds all the park's glaciers.
