Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve
Glacier Bay National Park is a watery wonderland of tidewater glaciers, snowy mountains, and quiet forests in southeast Alaska. It can only be reached by boat or plane, making it feel like a secret world of ice.
Glacier Bay is famous as a cruise ship favorite where towering glaciers meet the sea and calve giant icebergs. Visitors love the peaceful beauty and the chance to see humpback whales, sea otters, and mountain goats on the cliffs.
A Land Reborn
About 250 years ago this whole bay was buried under a giant glacier, but the ice has melted back many miles. Now new forests and meadows are growing where solid ice once stood, like nature starting fresh.
Whales
Every summer humpback whales travel thousands of miles to feast in these rich waters. You might see them blow misty spouts, slap their fins, or leap right out of the sea.
Native Homeland
Glacier Bay is the ancestral home of the Huna Tlingit people, who have lived and fished here for thousands of years. Their stories and traditions are shared at a special tribal house near the park.
