Palmer is a friendly farming town in a green valley north of Anchorage, surrounded by dramatic mountains. It was settled by farm families long ago and still grows food for much of Alaska.
Every summer the Alaska State Fair brings rides, animals, and record-breaking giant vegetables. You can visit a musk ox farm to meet shaggy Ice Age animals and hike near the pretty Matanuska Glacier.
