Juneau is the capital of Alaska, where the state government makes its decisions, yet it is so surrounded by mountains and water that you cannot drive there by road. You reach it only by boat or airplane.
You can walk right up to the huge Mendenhall Glacier, ride a tram up Mount Roberts for giant views, and watch whales splash in the sea. Big cruise ships bring visitors from all over the world.
