Fairbanks is the biggest city in the interior of Alaska, far from the ocean, and it is famous as one of the best places on Earth to see the northern lights. Winters get very cold and summers stay bright almost all night.
You can watch glowing green northern lights in winter, splash in warm water at Chena Hot Springs, and see giant ice sculptures at the winter carnival. Kids love the Museum of the North with its mammoth bones.
