About 290,000 people.

Anchorage

Anchorage is Alaska's biggest city and the busy heart of the state, where most Alaskans live, work, and shop. It sits between tall mountains and the ocean, so you can see snowy peaks right from downtown.

You can spot moose walking down the street, ride bikes along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, and visit the Alaska Zoo to meet bears and polar bears. In summer the sun barely sets, so kids can play outside very late!

Downtown

Downtown Anchorage is full of colorful shops, a giant weekend market with food and crafts, and huge flower baskets hanging everywhere in summer.

Parks & Nature

Chugach State Park sits right beside the city, with trails, waterfalls, and wild animals like moose and Dall sheep to watch for.
