Prunus avium

A tiny, round, shiny fruit that grows on a long stem with a small pit inside.

Small and round, deep red or dark purple, with a slender green stem.

Sweet and juicy, sometimes a little tart, with a burst of flavor in each bite.

Full of vitamin C and helpful plant colors called antioxidants that keep you healthy.

Eat them fresh right off the stem, or add them to yogurt, cakes, and fruit bowls.

Grows in bunches on trees that bloom with pretty pink and white flowers in spring.

A special treat found mostly in early summer.

Cherries have been picked and enjoyed by people since ancient times across Europe and Asia.

Cherries grow in pairs joined at the top, which is why we say things come in a bunch.

Watch out for the small hard pit in the center; bite gently and spit it out.
