Medanos de Coro

Medanos de Coro

The Medanos de Coro is a surprising desert of golden sand dunes near the northern coast of Venezuela. The wind constantly reshapes the dunes into smooth flowing hills.

It is famous because a real sandy desert sits so close to tropical beaches and green land. Visitors love sliding down the dunes and watching the sunset over the sand.

Dunes That Move

The wind pushes the sand a little every day, so the dunes slowly change shape and travel. No two visits look exactly the same.

Sliding on the Sand

Some visitors bring boards to slide down the tall smooth slopes, a bit like sledding on snow. Running down the soft dunes is fun too.

Golden Sunsets

At sunset the low sun paints the dunes in warm orange and gold colors. It is a favorite time to take photos because everything glows.
