Colonia del Sacramento
Colonia del Sacramento is one of the oldest towns in Uruguay, with a cobblestone old quarter that has stood for hundreds of years. Its historic center is so special that it is protected as a World Heritage site.

The old lighthouse
A tall white lighthouse stands over the old town, and you can climb its spiral stairs to see the whole city and river. From the top the red rooftops look like tiny building blocks.
Cobblestone streets
The bumpy stone streets were laid down centuries ago and still look almost the same today. The most famous one is the Street of Sighs, lined with colorful little houses.
Sunset by the river
The wide Rio de la Plata glows golden in the evening, and families gather on the old walls to watch. The water is so broad it looks like a calm silver sea.
