Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba
The Mezquita of Cordoba is a giant old building that began as a mosque and later became a cathedral. Inside is a huge hall filled with hundreds of red-and-white striped arches.
People love it because the rows of striped arches seem to stretch on forever like a magical stone forest. It shows how different cultures shared and built on the same beautiful place.
Forest of Arches
There are around 850 columns holding up the striped arches, spreading out in every direction. Walking through feels like getting happily lost in a maze of candy-cane stripes.
Orange Tree Courtyard
Outside the doors is a sunny courtyard full of orange trees planted in neat rows. In spring the whole yard smells sweet with orange blossoms.

Over the centuries different people prayed and built here, mixing their styles together. That is why you can spot both delicate carvings and grand cathedral art side by side.
