Machu Picchu

History
The Incas built Machu Picchu around the year 1450 as a royal estate. It was hidden for centuries until the world learned about it in 1911.
Wildlife
Fuzzy llamas walk on the grassy terraces and love to pose for photos. Colorful birds and rare orchids also live all around the ruins.
Getting there
Many visitors ride a scenic train through the valley, and brave hikers walk the famous Inca Trail for several days. The last part climbs a winding mountain road by bus.
