Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is one of the deepest canyons in the world, cut by a river between towering Andes cliffs. Green farming terraces climb the steep walls like giant stairs.

It is beloved as the best place in Peru to watch giant Andean condors soar overhead. Families also enjoy warm hot springs and pretty villages full of old traditions.

Wildlife

The Andean condor is one of the largest flying birds on Earth, with wings wider than a car. Early each morning they glide out of the canyon on warm rising air.

Scenery

The canyon is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon in some places. Ancient stone terraces still grow corn and potatoes on the sunny slopes.
