Jesuit Ruins of La Santisima Trinidad de Parana
These are the remains of a large 300-year-old town built by Jesuit priests and the Guarani people deep in southern Paraguay. Today you can walk among the pink stone church, plazas, and carved angels that still stand under the open sky.
It is Paraguay's most famous UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Jesuit missions in all of South America. Families love spotting the little stone angels playing trumpets carved into the old church walls.
History
Priests and the Guarani people built this mission town in the 1700s with workshops, homes, and gardens. It was a busy little city long before cars or electricity existed.
Stone Carvings
Look closely and you will find carved angels, flowers, and musical instruments in the reddish stone. Artists made them by hand hundreds of years ago.
Night Lights
In the evening the ruins glow with a special light-and-sound show. The old walls turn magical colors as stories of the past are told.
