Jesus de Tavarangue Ruins
Jesus de Tavarangue is a giant Jesuit mission church that was never quite finished, sitting on green rolling hills near Trinidad. Its huge stone arches and doorways are so big they make visitors feel tiny.
Together with Trinidad it forms Paraguay's UNESCO World Heritage pair, and its three grand trefoil doorways are famous around the world. People love that you can imagine the enormous church that was almost built here.
Giant Arches
Three tall arched doorways stand like a doorway for giants. They are shaped like clover leaves and are the most photographed part of the site.
The Unfinished Church
Builders left before the roof went on, so the church stayed open to the sky. It is fun to picture how grand it would have looked complete.
Green Countryside
The ruins sit among rolling green fields and wide skies. It is a calm, quiet place perfect for a family picnic and exploring.
