Utila

Utila

Utila is the smallest and most laid-back of the Bay Islands of Honduras. It is a friendly little island known around the world for its diving.

Utila is famous because the giant, gentle whale shark, the biggest fish in the ocean, often swims in its waters. Divers and snorkelers come from everywhere hoping to see this amazing spotted giant.

Whale sharks

Whale sharks are as long as a school bus but eat only tiny sea creatures, so they are completely harmless. Spotting one gliding by is a magical moment people never forget.

Island life

The island is small enough to explore by bike or on foot, with colorful wooden houses along the water. Everyone is friendly, and the pace of life is slow and happy.
