Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve
The Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve is a giant wild rainforest in the region called La Mosquitia. It is one of the last great untouched jungles in Central America, full of rivers, animals, and secrets.
Rio Platano is famous as a World Heritage Site, treasured for its huge variety of plants and animals. Explorers travel its rivers by boat to see jaguars, tapirs, and villages deep in the jungle.
Amazing animals
This jungle is home to jaguars, giant anteaters, tapirs, and hundreds of birds. It is one of the few places left where so many wild animals still roam freely.

The best way to explore is by riding boats down the winding rivers deep into the forest. Along the way you pass tall trees, sandy banks, and friendly riverside villages.
Local people
Indigenous groups like the Miskito and Pech people have lived here for a very long time. They share their fishing, cooking, and stories with the few visitors who come.
