Celaque National Park
Celaque National Park protects the tallest mountain in all of Honduras. Its name means box of water, and it is covered in a cool, misty cloud forest.
Celaque is famous for its foggy forest full of giant old trees, ferns, and hanging moss. Adventurous families come to hike to the top and stand above the clouds.
Cloud forest
High on the mountain the trees are wrapped in soft mist and dripping moss. Walking through the quiet, cool forest feels like stepping into a fairy tale.
Wildlife
The forest hides quetzals, a bird with long shimmering green feathers, along with deer and playful monkeys. Bird lovers dream of spotting the rare and beautiful quetzal here.
Hiking
Trails climb from the town of Gracias up to the misty peak, with camping spots along the way. It is a big adventure that rewards hikers with amazing views over the clouds.
