Mount Roraima
Mount Roraima is a giant flat-topped mountain where the borders of Guyana, Venezuela, and Brazil meet. Its huge cliffs rise straight up out of the jungle like a table in the clouds.
People are amazed by Roraima because its misty top holds strange plants and creatures found nowhere else. It looks so magical that it inspired a famous story about a lost world of dinosaurs.
A Mountain Like a Table
Roraima is a tepui, which means a mountain with a flat top and steep straight sides like a giant table. Clouds often wrap around it, making the summit appear to float in the sky.
Plants Found Nowhere Else
The cool, wet top is home to tiny carnivorous plants and little black frogs that live only here. Because the summit is cut off from the world below, life there grew special and unusual.
The Lost World
Long ago, explorers' tales of this mountain inspired a famous adventure book about dinosaurs on a hidden plateau. Even today, climbing to the top feels like stepping into a storybook.
